It’s time – ACT!

Action changes things! (ACT) We are almost half-way through the second quarter of 2018 and there has already been numerous posts and conversations on resolutions, reminders on the importance of taking time to focus on both physical and mental well-being, predictions in the realm of people, process, technology and strategy. All these discussions and information sharing from my colleagues, industry experts, thought leaders, etc. provide great insight which leads me to share my thoughts on the importance of change.

Everyone has experienced some sort of disruption in their professional and personal lives. For those of you who know me, I have gone through numerous disruptions in my professional career including company acquisitions, leadership dynamics, inheriting teams to lead, and maintaining sanity through it all. Throughout those changes, I have remained resilient. I want to share a quote from the Harvard Business Review: “Resilience is about how you recharge, not how you endure.” A different view on being resilient.

Making a change, adapting to change and embracing change is not easy. Here are my practical thoughts on why disrupting yourself is necessary within your professional endeavors:

  1. Rinse and repeat cycle – there comes a point where you have exhausted multiple attempts of influencing change and educating the organization(s) on the importance of walking the talk not just saying the words.
  2. Status quo – that’s how it is, it’s the company’s way of doing things. What happened to those organizations that were written in the book titled Good to Great by Jim Collins – where do they rank from Good to Great today?
  3. There is light at the end of the tunnel – well if they are still using candle light instead of LED with high lumens, move on!

Once you have made up your mind to move on, make it happen and don’t look back!

Until next time…

Roger Lee aka Dr. WFO
